The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a student-led program that provides a unique opportunity for first-year students to jumpstart their involvement on campus during their first semester here on the Hilltop. The program takes place during the fall semester and is designed to help students explore leadership at Georgetown University, in Washington, DC, and in a larger context.

Participants explore leadership models, led by a group of experienced and involved student mentors, university staff, and faculty.  A total of 40 participants are chosen from the incoming class. They are grouped into ‘families’ of five and guided by a student mentor, who provides a space for authentic interaction and supports their campus engagement. Participants in ELP also have access to our extensive alumni network of students and graduates that stretches back to 1999.

Participants will meet four Wednesdays and four Saturdays during the fall semester, including one overnight retreat. Mentors set weekly family gatherings for participants connect with each other and with other on-campus opportunities. Participants can expect family dinners at Leo’s, group ventures to museums, a program retreat, and service opportunities in the D.C. community.

At the end of the program, students will have developed their own philosophy of leadership that they can use as a guide, and skills they can put into practice as they participate Georgetown’s many campus organizations. Past ELP Participants have gone on to be a part of the Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA), Blue and Gray Tour Guide Society, International Relations Club, The Hoya, Student Activities Commission, Georgetown Program Board, Georgetown Weeks of Welcome, our own GOLD Mentor Team, and many more!
