The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a student-led program that provides a unique opportunity for first-year students to jumpstart their involvement on campus during their first semester here on the Hilltop. The program takes place during the fall semester and is designed to help students explore leadership at Georgetown, in Washington, DC, and in a larger context.
Participants explore the Relational Leadership Model, led by a group of experienced and involved student mentors, university staff, and faculty. Only 40 participants are chosen from the incoming class. They are grouped into ‘families’ of five and guided by a student mentor, who provides a space for authentic interaction and supports their campus engagement. Participants in ELP also have access to our extensive alumni network of students and graduates that stretches back to 1999.
Participants will meet once a week, every Thursday evening from 6 PM to 8 PM in a formal setting. With consideration for participants’ schedules, mentors set weekly family gatherings for participants to come together and connect both with each other and with other on-campus opportunities. Participants can expect family dinners at Leo’s, group ventures to museums, a program retreat, and service opportunities in the DC community. At the end of the program, students will understand the nuances of leadership theory and will put them into practice as they interact with Georgetown’s vast number of campus organizations. Past ELP Participants have gone on to be a part of Georgetown University Student Association, Blue and Gray Tour Guide Society, International Relations Club, The Hoya, Student Activities Commission, Georgetown Program Board, our own GOLD Mentor Team, and much more!
Interested applicants are invited to apply here under the "Forms" section of the Georgetown Opportunities for Leadership Development page beginning on July 6, 2017, and will be available until 11:59 PM on July 27, 2017.
